Aliyu Tambuwal UMAR is a Professor of Climatology at the Department of Geography, Faculty of the Social Sciences, Usmanu Danfodiyo University where he teaches theoretical and applied aspects of climatology. He conducted several researches in the area of climate change impacts and vulnerability, mitigation and adaptation, applied meteorology, synoptic climatology, water resources management and had over thirty publications consisting of chapters in books, articles in high impact indexed journals. He has also attended and presented several conference papers in Nigeria and overseas. Prof. Umar has supervised several M. Sc. and Ph. D. students in different areas of theoretical and applied climatology. Prof. Umar has also participated in several consultancy projects on agro-climatology through the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Consultancy Services (UDUCONS). Prof. Umar is also an adjunct lecturer in the Departments of Meteorology and Climate Change at the WMO Regional Training Centre – Muhammadu Buhari Meteorological Institute of Science and Technology (MBMIST), Katsina, Katsina State, Nigeria where he teaches courses on Introduction to meteorology, marine meteorology, urban climatology and hydrometeorology.

Prof. Umar had examined several M. Sc. And Ph. D theses at different universities in Nigeria among which include the Bayero University Kano, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria and the University of Ibadan. He has also assessed one Reader at one University in Nigeria. Prof. Umar is a registered member of the Association of Nigerian Geographers (A. N. G.), Nigerian Meteorological Society (NMets) and Japan Meteorological Society and was unanimously elected as the 2nd Vice-President of the Nigerian Meteorological Society in December 2029 at 32nd AGM of the NMets held at the Federal University of Technology, Akure. He has also granted several interviews on different aspects of climate change through the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and local radio stations in Sokoto State.
