Ojonigu Friday ATI

Ojonigu Friday Ati is a Professor of Geography with specialisation in Climatology, climate change and remote sensing and GIS. He has over 100 publications in Peer-reviewed international and local journals, conferences, seminars, and workshops. His key research is in drought and desertification and the impact of variability in seasonal rainfall characteristics on agriculture and water resources development in the Sudano-Sahelian zone of Nigeria. He was a Pioneer Member of Council, Federal University Dutsin-Ma (2015 to 2019). He is the Pioneer Director, Centre for Climate Change and Environmental Security, Federal University Dutsin-Ma. He served as the Pioneer Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, Dean of Undergraduate Faculties among other responsibilities in the same University and ABU, Zaria. He served as Visiting Professor in the Department of Geography, Kaduna state University, Kaduna, Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna respectfully and is currently visiting at the Department of Meteorology, Kano State University of Science and Technology, Wudil. He was involved in the drafting of the 2nd Nigerian National Communication on Climate Change. He served as the Climate Change Specialist for the World Bank, Climate Co-Benefit Assessment for Nigeria COVED19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (CARES) Project, 2020; Climate Change Specialist on the Consultancy Services for the Completion of Demand Studies and GIS Mapping for the Abuja Integrated Urban Upgrading Programme for African Development Bank, 2019. He has also done climate change analysis for Specific Catchment Planning of NEWMAP projects in Plateau and Kogi States respectively. Review of Draft Reports on Household Vulnerabilities to Climate Change/ the Multi-Sector Investment Framework and Assessment and Analysis of Economic Cost of Land Degradation in Arid and Semi-Arid Regions at the World Bank Workshop on Assessment and Analysis of Economic Cost of Land Degradation in Arid and Semi-Arid Regions in Nigeria, November 28, 2018. Review and proofreading of report on Environment and Social Impact Assessment for the proposed BinYauri Gold Mining and Processing Plant Project at Marabar Yauri, Ngaski LGA, Kebbi State for. SMDF-PAGMI Limited, Abuja. 20 February 2023. Resource person ECOWAS Workshop for Implementation of Activities to Support Institutional Capacity for Disaster Risk Management, 1-3 December 2020. He has been engaged in several Stakeholder meetings and workshops on climate change organised by the Department of Climate Change, World Bank, and others.
